U.S. ETF Assets Hit Record $11 Trillion Amid Strong Inflows
ETFGI reports U.S. ETF assets surged to a historic $11.04 trillion in May 2025, eclipsing January''s $10.73 trillion record. The sector attracted $82.44 billion in net inflows during the month, pushing year-to-date inflows to an unprecedented $443.34 billion—surpassing 2021''s full-year total of $399.10 billion.
Market gains fueled the milestone: The S&P 500 ROSE 6.29% in May (+1.06% YTD), while developed ex-U.S. markets gained 5.12% (+16.52% YTD). Austria and Netherlands led with 11.40% and 9.12% monthly returns respectively. Emerging markets climbed 4.42%.
The 37th consecutive month of net inflows underscores structural demand for ETFs as Core portfolio holdings. ''These flows reflect institutional and retail investors voting with their wallets,'' said a market strategist, speaking anonymously ahead of ETFGI''s full report.
